How do folders and sorting work in Cryptile?
Folders group photos, videos, files and notes inside one vault. Favourites and five sort orders help you find things without leaving it.

How do I make a folder and move things into it?
- Open Cryptile and draw the pattern for the vault you want.
- Tap the + button, then New folder, and type a name.
- The folder opens. Anything you add while it is open goes into it.
- To move an item later, press and hold it, choose Move to folder, then pick a folder.
- Choose Remove from folder to put the item back at the top level.
- Tap All in the folder bar to see every item again.
Deleting a folder does not delete its contents. The items stay in the vault. Folders are free and unlimited, and they do not count towards the photo and video limits.
How do I sort the vault and mark favourites?
Open the sort menu and pick one order: newest, oldest, name, size, or favourites first. Cryptile remembers your choice.
To favourite an item, press and hold it and choose Favourite. Turn on Favourites only in the same menu to see just those items.
Searching by name or folder works on the free plan. Reading text inside photos and PDFs is part of Plus.
What do folders and sorting protect against?
- Someone holding your unlocked phone. They see only the vault whose pattern they know. Folders in other vaults stay hidden.
- Someone copying the app's files. Folder names and favourite marks sit in the encrypted index, protected by AES-256-GCM.
- The developer. There is no account and no server, so we cannot see how you organise anything.
What do folders and sorting not protect against?
- Anyone inside the open vault. Whoever draws your pattern sees every folder and its name. A folder is not a second lock.
- Revealing names. A folder named after a person or place is readable on screen. Pick plain names.
- Screenshots. A folder view can be captured while the vault is open.
- A short vault pattern. Use 8 or more cells.
- Losing the phone and the recovery phrase. The vault is gone. There is no reset.
For a hidden second space, use a decoy vault with its own pattern. Read the security page for the full limits.
