Cryptile

An encrypted vault for your photos, videos and documents

Draw a pattern to open it. There is no account to make, no server holding your keys, and no limit on what you keep. Cryptile is free, for iPhone and iPad.

Five things that make it different

1. Encrypted, not just hidden

Every file, every thumbnail and the index that lists them is encrypted with AES-256-GCM. Nothing readable sits on your phone's storage, so files copied off the phone are unreadable.

2. Your keys come from your pattern, on your device

The key that unlocks a vault is worked out on your phone from the pattern you draw. There is no account and no server, and we never hold your keys. There is nothing of yours for us to hand over.

3. A different pattern opens a different vault

There is no list of vaults anywhere in the app. Draw one pattern and you open one vault; draw another and you open another. A second vault can be a decoy, and file sizes are padded and spare decoy slots are kept, so nobody examining the phone can count your vaults.

4. You can check the work

The encryption core is open source. The threat model, including what Cryptile does not protect against, and the test vectors anyone can run against it are published. Read how it works.

5. Backup you control, and a way out

Backup to iCloud is encrypted, and restoring on a new phone takes a 9-word recovery phrase that only you hold. A separate panic pattern makes every vault on that device unopenable when you draw it.

What Cryptile cannot do

We would rather you hear the limits from us.

Free, and Plus when you want it

Everything in the vault is free: unlimited photos, videos and documents, encryption, decoy vaults, encrypted backup and restore. No ads, no trial, no timer.

Cryptile Plus adds extra features. It is $39.99 once, or $19.99 a year if you prefer. The price is the same today and next year. There is no countdown and no nagging. See what Plus adds.
