How to View the iPhone Hidden Album on a Windows PC

Updated

On a Windows PC, the way Apple documents is iCloud.com. Sign in at icloud.com/photos, select Hidden in the sidebar, then Show Hidden Photos. This works only if your iPhone uses iCloud Photos.

What do I need to know?

  • iCloud Photos must be on. If your iPhone does not sync to iCloud, there is nothing to view online.
  • Advanced Data Protection blocks the web. Apple says turning it on disables access to your data at iCloud.com.
  • Apple's steps ask only for your Apple Account sign-in. Treat a shared PC with care.

How do I see hidden photos on iCloud.com?

From Apple's guide, hide your photos and videos on iCloud.com:

  1. Go to icloud.com/photos and sign in to your Apple Account.
  2. Select Hidden in the sidebar.
  3. Select Show Hidden Photos.

To unhide one, select it, select the More button, then Unhide. If you use iCloud Photos, Apple says photos hidden on one device are hidden on your other devices too, so this changes your iPhone as well.

Can I see hidden photos in iCloud for Windows?

Apple does not say. Its pages on iCloud Photos in iCloud for Windows and using iCloud Photos on your PC do not mention the Hidden album at all.

What Apple does describe: open File Explorer, click iCloud Photos in the navigation pane, and double-click a thumbnail to download it. If you need hidden photos specifically, use iCloud.com, where Apple documents the steps.

Why can't I see my Hidden album online?

Check these in order.

1. iCloud Photos is off on your iPhone. Following Apple's iCloud Photos page, open Settings, tap your name, then iCloud → Photos. If Sync this device is off, your photos are not on iCloud.com.

2. Advanced Data Protection is on. Apple's Advanced Data Protection page says it disables iCloud.com access "to ensure that your data is available only on your trusted devices." Use your iPhone or a Mac instead.

3. You signed in with a different Apple Account. The PC must use the same account as the iPhone.

4. The photos were deleted, not hidden. Look in Recently Deleted. Apple keeps items there for 30 days.

Is it safe to do this on a shared PC?

Be careful. Apple's iCloud.com steps describe no extra unlock for the Hidden album beyond signing in. Anyone using that browser while you are signed in may see it.

  • Use a private browser window if you can.
  • Sign out of iCloud.com when you finish.
  • Do not let the browser save your Apple Account password.
  • Downloaded photos stay in the PC's Downloads folder until you delete them.

What this doesn't protect against

The Hidden album is a filter, not separate encryption. Under standard data protection, Apple keeps the keys to iCloud Photos, as its data security overview explains. Anyone who can sign in to your Apple Account can reach the same photos.

Do it with Cryptile

Photos in a Cryptile vault are not in your Photos library, so they never reach iCloud.com or a PC. They are encrypted on your iPhone with AES-256-GCM under a key from a pattern only you know. Cryptile has no Windows or web app.

Cryptile is free for up to 2 vaults, 100 photos and 10 videos. Plus removes the limits for $19.99 a year (7-day free trial) or $39.99 once. The price is the same every day.
