Share Holiday Photos Without Showing Your Camera Roll
You do not need an app for this. On iOS 27, select the holiday photos and share only those, or put them in a shared album. Nobody needs to hold your phone or scroll your library.

What do I need to know?
- Share a selection, not your phone. Passing the phone around lets anyone swipe past the beach into everything else.
- A shared album is the easiest for a group. People see only what you add to it.
- Location travels with the photo. Apple says a shared photo includes "date and time, location, device, and captions".
Which way of sharing should I use?
- A few photos to one or two people: Messages, Mail or AirDrop.
- A whole trip to a group: a shared album.
- People without an iPhone: a shared album set to Anyone with the Link.
How do I send just a few photos?
Steps from Apple's guide to sharing photos on iPhone, iOS 27:
- Open Photos and go to a screen showing the trip.
- Tap Select, then tap each photo you want to send.
- Tap Show Selected to check the set before it leaves.
- Tap the Share button and choose Messages, Mail or AirDrop.
Searching Photos for the place name or date makes step 1 faster. It only changes what is on your screen, not what you send.
How do I make a shared album for the trip?
Steps from Apple's guide to creating shared albums, iOS 27:
- Go to Settings → your name → iCloud → Photos and turn on Shared Albums.
- In Photos, tap Collections → Shared Albums, then tap the add button.
- Tap Add Photos and pick the holiday shots.
- Name the album, for example "Lisbon 2026".
- Under Sharing Options, choose People You Choose or Anyone with the Link.
- Turn on Make Album Temporary if it should expire after 30 days.
Then invite people from the album's menu with Invite Participants. Apple says participants can add photos and comments by default. You can limit someone to Can View and Comment. See add and remove people in a shared album.
How do I leave location out?
Apple's Personal Safety guide gives these steps. Select the photos, tap the Share button, then tap Options. Turn off Location. "Location Not Included" then shows above the Options button. See manage location metadata in Photos.
A photo from your holiday flat or a child's school trip often needs this. More on what a photo carries is in what is EXIF data.
What about showing photos in person?
If you must hand the phone over, open one photo and use Guided Access. Our guide to showing one photo without letting someone swipe has the steps.
What this doesn't protect against
Once someone has a copy, you cannot pull it back. Apple says photos people saved from a shared album stay in their library even after the album is deleted. Shared Albums are not end-to-end encrypted, even with Advanced Data Protection on, per Apple's iCloud security overview.
Do it with Cryptile
Cryptile keeps the photos you never want in a share sheet out of the Photos library entirely. They sit in an encrypted vault opened by your own pattern, so a stray swipe cannot reach them.
Cryptile is free for up to 2 vaults, 100 photos and 10 videos, with files, notes and folders unlimited and encrypted iCloud backup included. Plus adds search inside the vault and the panic pattern for $19.99 a year (7-day free trial) or $39.99 once.
