Can Someone See My Photos Through iPhone Mirroring?
Only someone sitting at a Mac you have set up for iPhone Mirroring can see your photos this way. Apple says your iPhone stays locked while you mirror. No one else can use it to see what you are doing.

What do I need to know?
- It works on your own Mac. Apple's page requires iOS 18 or later and macOS Sequoia 15 or later.
- Apple says the iPhone stays locked. No one else can access it or use it to see what you are doing.
- Photos can be dragged across. Apple says you can drag a video from Photos onto the Mac desktop.
What is iPhone Mirroring?
iPhone Mirroring shows your iPhone screen in a window on your Mac. You use it with the Mac's mouse and keyboard. Apple's iPhone Mirroring page describes the setup.
Apple also says it is currently unavailable in the European Union. Check the page for your region.
Can a stranger use it to look at my photos?
Apple's pages do not describe a way for another person to start mirroring without your Mac and your iPhone. The risk is a Mac that is already set up and left open. Apple says you can drag a video from Photos onto the Mac, so Photos is within reach.
Apple does not say how the Hidden album behaves while mirroring. Do not assume it stays closed.
Does my Mac see my notifications?
Yes. Apple's personal safety guide says your Mac receives iPhone notifications and Live Activities. That happens even when you are not mirroring, as long as the iPhone is on.
Treat a shared Mac as a second screen for your notifications.
How do I remove a Mac?
- Open Settings on your iPhone.
- Go to General, then AirPlay & Continuity, then iPhone Mirroring.
- Tap Edit and remove the Mac you no longer trust.
These are the steps in Apple's guide. Menu names can change between iOS versions.
What this doesn't protect against
A vault cannot stop someone watching you unlock it. That includes a mirrored window. We have not tested Cryptile with iPhone Mirroring, so we make no claim about how it behaves there. A short pattern is weaker than a passphrase, so use 8 or more cells. If you lose both the pattern and the recovery phrase, the vault is gone.
Do it with Cryptile
Cryptile keeps photos out of your Photos library, so Photos does not show them. They are encrypted with AES-256-GCM, and the key comes from a pattern drawn on your device. There is no account and no server.
Cryptile is free to start. Plus adds more, and the app tells you when you reach it.
