Can Shared Library Members See Your Hidden Photos?
Yes, if the photo is in the Shared Library. Apple says hiding a Shared Library photo moves it to the Hidden album for all participants, and any of them can view it or unhide it. Photos in your Personal Library are not shared, hidden or not.

What do I need to know?
- Hidden is shared too. A hidden Shared Library photo sits in every participant's Hidden album.
- Which library matters. Hiding does not change who can see a photo. Moving it to your Personal Library does.
- The camera can share for you. Sharing from Camera can add new photos to the Shared Library automatically.
Can other people see my hidden photos?
It depends on which library the photo is in.
- Shared Library photo, hidden. Apple's iCloud.com guide says it "moves to the Hidden album for all participants, where they can view or stop hiding it."
- Personal Library photo, hidden. Only you see it. Other participants see only what is in the Shared Library.
A Shared Library has up to six people: the creator and up to five others. Apple's article on iCloud Shared Photo Library says all of them can add, edit and delete content.
How do I check which library a photo is in?
These steps are from Apple's article for iOS 27.
- Open Photos and tap Library.
- Tap the Sort and Filter button, then Library View.
- Choose Shared Library to see only what everyone can see.
In iOS 26, tap Library, then the Sort and Filter button. Shared photos carry a small badge in the corner.
How do I take a photo back out?
Apple's iPhone User Guide explains it.
- Open the photo in the Shared Library.
- Tap the More button at the top.
- Tap Move to Personal Library.
Apple describes this for photos you contributed. A photo someone else added is theirs to move.
How do I stop new photos being shared?
- Open Settings, tap Apps, then Photos.
- Tap Shared Library, then Sharing from Camera.
- Choose Share Manually, or turn Sharing from Camera off.
In the Camera app, the Shared Library button decides where each new photo goes. Tap it off to save to your Personal Library.
Can someone keep my photos if I leave?
Possibly. If a participant has been in the Shared Library for more than seven days, Apple says they get everything from it when it is deleted. A participant who leaves, or who is removed, can also keep a copy of everything. Move private photos out before you change anything.
What this doesn't protect against
Moving a photo to your Personal Library does not take back copies a participant already saved. Anyone with your passcode can still open your own Hidden album. A vault keeps photos out of both libraries, but anyone who watches you draw your pattern can open it.
Do it with Cryptile
Photos in Cryptile are not in any Photos library, so no Shared Library can pick them up. Each one is encrypted with AES-256-GCM under a key made on your device from your pattern.
Cryptile is free for up to 2 vaults, 100 photos and 10 videos. Plus removes the limits and adds the panic pattern and search inside the vault, for $19.99 a year (7-day free trial) or $39.99 once.
