Cryptile vs Inner Gallery

Updated

Cryptile and Inner Gallery both encrypt photos and videos on iPhone and iPad, and both offer a decoy. Inner Gallery syncs across devices and can disguise its icon. Cryptile uses a drawn pattern, adds notes and files, and publishes its encryption core for audit.

  • You want the same vault in sync on your iPhone and iPad today. Cryptile has no sync yet.
  • You want the icon to look like a calculator, notes, settings or clock.
  • You want separate spaces, each with its own name, colour and lock.

When should I choose Cryptile?

  • You want to read the encryption core, its threat model and its test vectors.
  • You want secure notes and files next to your photos.
  • You want decoys and a panic pattern in one plan, with no add-ons.

What are the limits of Cryptile?

These apply to any pattern-based vault, ours included.

  • Short patterns are weak. A pattern is weaker than a passphrase. Use 8 or more cells.
  • Screenshots win. View-once cannot stop a screenshot.
  • No reset. Lose the pattern and the recovery phrase, and the vault is gone.
