When should I choose Calculator#?

  • You want the app to look like a calculator on your home screen.
  • You want passwords, contacts and to-dos in the same app as your photos.
  • You want a way back in by email if you forget your password. Cryptile has no reset.
  • You want a low yearly price or a Mac version today.

When should I choose Cryptile?

  • You want to know the cipher and read the encryption core before you trust it.
  • You want no account, and keys that never leave your phone.
  • You want decoy vaults and a panic pattern that destroys this device's keys.

A disguise hides that you have a vault. It does not say how the files are protected. Our guide to calculator vault apps explains what to check.

What are the limits of Cryptile?

These apply to any pattern-based vault, ours included.

  • Short patterns are weak. A pattern is weaker than a passphrase. Use 8 or more cells.
  • Screenshots win. View-once cannot stop a screenshot.
  • No reset. Lose the pattern and the recovery phrase, and the vault is gone.
